07 EQUIPMENT RESEARCH

In this section of my blog, I will be presenting my experimentation with different photography styles, techniques and lighting. The majority of my shots will be taken with my Sony SLT A65 camera, my pride and joy.

With approximately 2 years of experience in photography prior to this course (tutoring by an award-winning photographer), I look forward to broadening my photographic knowledge.

For my first task, I looked into various lighting styles and how light falls onto a subject, casting shadows and creating highlights. The slideshow below demonstrates my experimentation with my model: a fox terrier ornament.

For this next task, I tried my best to replicate various images, displaying lighting techniques. Although, not all of the images are direct copies, due to lack of resources, landscapes and conditions, I am extremely pleased with how they turned out.

02 STATEMENT OF INTENT

I intend to create a music video and an online website for a rock song called "What's up?". I plan on using a variety of different locations and several different people to show different social groups.

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? ( approx. 400 words)

Product 1 Music Video

For my music video, I intend to entice my target audience (16-25) by following normal codes and conventions and showing a young girl breaking free from the restraints of society and authority. I think that this will appeal to the rebellious nature of my target audience. My music video will be cool, lively and rebellious, which will follow the anarchist nature of the music artist. I hope to make the costume of my music artist funky and follow the more gothic style - I also want to make a converging link between music video and website by putting the more "statement-making" pieces of the costume on the merchandise section of my website! The intention of my music video is to promote my artist and create an understanding and inclusive approach for the audience to see themselves being represented through my artist. I intend to do this by presenting her in a positive light where she will be participating in everyday activities. This will make her seem like a normal person so the audience will be able to relate to her and feel represented. The song I have chosen "What's Up?", fits this genre perfectly. My main inspiration stems from Depeche Mode, Queen, etc.

Product 2 Online Website

For my website production, I intend to use and challenge the different codes and conventions of existing media. I plan on showing my knowledge of media convergence in my products by using the same style of presentation, same fonts for advertising, photos of the model from the video in the website gallery, interviews of the artist, behind the scenes and I will use the same colour scheme for both the website and the music video - the main colour will be a vibrant red. Furthermore, I will make a symbol for the music artist which will be included in both the music video and the website to link them together. Also, I hope to be able to include some form of clothing convergence by including the name of the artist or the symbol. One of the main props of the video will be flying goggles, therefore, I will create a convergence link by including this in my merch section on the website. I intend to include all of the main different clothing pieces in my merchandise section, especially coloured socks, bandanas and jewellery. For my audio-visual element, I intend to make several Tik Tok videos and Teaser videos for the audience to get a better feel of the artist, In addition, I hope that I will be able to create a comments section where fans can submit comments or questions to Dee Dee some will even be posted on the website.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

I intend to link my media products by featuring a gallery section on my website, which will include pictures from the video and candid/behind-the-scenes pictures too. I will also demonstrate my knowledge of convergence by having music video-themed competitions for fans to participate in. I hope to have a working locations page (including a map of locations where scenes were filmed), social media pages, teaser videos, tik tok videos, behind-the-scenes videos, galleries, merchandise sections - which offer products from the music video, as well as a post a comment to the artist section. If I have time, I might include a subscription model for members. Perhaps, at the end of the video, I will create a "visit the website" link or QR code.

Music video

- video must be sufficiently filled with things that it is obviously promoting the artist

- should be in keeping with website's version of the artist/should be promoted the same way.

- second page of website should be dedicated on some level to selling the music video, must contain behind-the-scenes shooting plus interview with director.

- should have bloopers reel from music video production.

- should have image gallery including photos from shooting of music video and anything else towards music video

- ways for people to interact with director from music video, post comments etc so people want to watch the video, come back to the website and make comments.

This video will be shot with a hand-held camera so there may be some shakiness in the camera shots.
