Brief

I have chosen to do Brief number 4, the music video. I feel as though I will probably chose a sub-genre of rock as I think I would be able to complete the codes and conventions a lot better.

Brief 4: Music Video and online Requirements of the brief .You work for an independent media production company. You have been given the task of producing a three-minute music video for a rock song* by a fictional band/artist signed to Universal and two pages for the working website for the band/artist. You may use an existing song for your music video (this does not need to be copyright free). The web pages must promote the band/artist to its target audience and enable fans to interact with them.

Summary of brief requirements:

• Statement of Intent (approx. 500 words).

• Music Video: One, three-minute music video.

• Distribution channel: Content must be age appropriate for young adults from the age of 16.

• Number of web pages: One homepage and one linked page.

• Cross-media production target audience: A primarily 16–25 year old middle market audience that likes to be entertained. There must be a clear sense of branding across the two elements of the cross-media production.

Production detail that must be included:

The production of the music video must include (as a minimum):

• Range of camera shots, including shot distances, angles and movement as appropriate to a music video.

• Editing of footage appropriate to a music video.

• At least two different uses of mise-en-scène.

• At least two characters representing at least two different social groups (e.g. as defined by age, gender, race and ethnicity, sexuality).

• Graphics/titles to include the name of the track and the name of the band/artist.

The production of the web pages must include (as a minimum):

• Original audio or audio-visual content which may include material from the music video but must include at least one element produced specifically for the website.

• Use of original images.

Each webpage must include at least one image that is different to those used on the other webpage and those produced for the music video.

• Appropriate conventions of website design, including an original title and logo for the band/artist’s webpage and a menu bar.

• Text introducing the band/artist.

• Working links from the home page to the other page.

• A range of appropriate media language techniques (typography, images, fonts, backgrounds, logos, etc.) as appropriate to the purpose of the website.

* Allow any track that may reasonably be considered to be from the rock genre (including sub-genres of rock).

TESTS AND EXPERIMENTS

My first ideas for the symbol for the band. I think that the main colour for the band will be red.

Here is a mock up of my website, including most of the codes and conventions that I'd like in my final piece.

Here is one of the locations that I intend to be shooting at: a trampoline park in Hastings.

Another possible location is Viking Bay in Broadstairs, near Louisa Bay.

Second location: ball pit (character falls into it, throws balls in the air, disappears under the balls and sticks a hand out).

Third location: beach, preferably one with rocks on. Ideas for locations: Pegwell Bay, Sandwich Bay, Pett Level Beach, Dungeness Beach and Hastings nature beach.

Pegwell Bay near old Hoverport above. I might try shooting on the old hoverport station.

Sandwich bay above.

Pett Level Beach groins in sand/rocks above.

Dungeness Beach ariel view above.

Hastings nature reserve overlooking the beach above.

Here is my inspiration for clothing.
I hope to have several outfits for the main character to swap between.

First outfit: black, gothic dress with ruffles. Must be long and flowy at the bottom, but tighter at the top.
Second outfit: black shorts, black leather jacket and shirt, lots of jewellery, reggae hat and/or flying goggles.
Third outfit: to be worn by several different people, will contain black leather jacket and flying goggles. Close up shots of people taking the goggles on and off.

2nd outfit inspo:

For my shooting script, I will write in Courier New.

Here are a few of the clothes and props that I will use for my music video. I am trying to go for a gothic black dress with lots of layers and ruffles. I think that this will work better with my soft gothic feel as the dress very elegant.
I intend to do a photoshoot this weekend, where I will have my main character in this outfit, posing in front of various locations that I hope to use in the video.

07 EQUIPMENT RESEARCH

In this section of my blog, I will be presenting my experimentation with different photography styles, techniques and lighting. The majority of my shots will be taken with my Sony SLT A65 camera, my pride and joy.

With approximately 2 years of experience in photography prior to this course (tutoring by an award-winning photographer), I look forward to broadening my photographic knowledge.

For my first task, I looked into various lighting styles and how light falls onto a subject, casting shadows and creating highlights. The slideshow below demonstrates my experimentation with my model: a fox terrier ornament.

For this next task, I tried my best to replicate various images, displaying lighting techniques. Although, not all of the images are direct copies, due to lack of resources, landscapes and conditions, I am extremely pleased with how they turned out.
